shamelessly glitzy work
Shamelessly Glitzy Work plays with lies and illusion, manipulation and the sheer power that comes with working a crowd.
Here, intimacy comes quick, but everything that is said is a lie. There are stories half told and facts contested, solos interrupted and smoke and mirrors that fail to hide anything. Magicians and ladies in suits smile while they trick you, then tell you it has all been for the best. You see levitating bodies and wet t-shirt competitions, bleeding heads and ridiculous light shows.
There are many beginnings but not so many endings. There is a little bit of honesty (but not much).
As members of an audience that knows it's being lied to, it seems that sometimes the truth in a promise ceases to matter — as long as it makes you feel good at the time.
"An ironic spectacular featuring ditzy dialogue, alcopop-guzzling, bad dancing, bold colours and an existential emptiness… pokes at the dead remains of dramatic performance with a very big stick that is itself hugely entertaining… Shamelessly Glitzy Work makes the shared experience of art a thing of joy in itself."
— John Bailey, REALTIME
"They refuse to define their own genre, which blends installation, dance, monologue and magic… If you love sitting amongst a crowd of others who "get" that theatre can reach beyond the obvious and should be brave enough to experiment whatever the result, keep an eye on post, as we haven't seen the best of them yet."
